What should be noted when storing Phosphorous Acid

2026-04-21 0 Leave me a message

1. General Overview

Phosphorous Acid is a medium strong acid and corrosive chemical with hygroscopicity and slight irritation. Storage should be carried out with anti-corrosion isolation, ventilation, temperature control, sealing, moisture prevention, and zoning to prevent mixing, exposure to sunlight, and high temperature environments, ensuring storage safety and reagent purity.

2、 Specific storage requirements

1.Sealed storage to prevent moisture absorption and impurities from entering

Phosphoric acid has strong hygroscopicity and is prone to absorbing moisture and dust from the air when exposed, leading to changes in concentration and a decrease in purity; Normally, bottle caps/barrel caps must be tightly sealed to reduce air contact.

2.Cool, dark, temperature controlled storage

Store in a cool, ventilated, and dark warehouse, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and high-temperature equipment; Store at room temperature, avoid high temperatures, prevent container aging, and prevent liquid evaporation and deterioration.

3.Anti corrosion container, dedicated storage

Industrial grade and reagent grade phosphoric acid are generally stored in plastic drums and PP/PE acid resistant containers. It is strictly prohibited to use metal containers such as iron, aluminum, copper, etc. to prevent acid corrosion and chemical reactions.

4.Strictly partition and prohibit mixed storage

      Do not mix with strong bases (sodium hydroxide, soda ash), oxides, reducing agents, ammonia water, etc;

Separate acid and alkali storage to avoid neutralization reactions, heat release, and splashing hazards after leakage.

5.Moisture proof and leak proof, ground anti-seepage

The ground of the storage area should be acid resistant and corrosion-resistant, and anti leakage trays and cofferdams should be installed; Avoid damp water accumulation, prevent corrosion of the outer wall of the container, and prevent damage and leakage of the barrel body.

6.Stay away from flammable and combustible materials

Phosphoric acid itself is not flammable, but it should be kept away from flammable substances such as alcohol, organic solvents, and wood to avoid secondary risks caused by accidental contact.

7.Clear identification and dedicated management

Post corrosive hazard labels and chemical names outside the container, classify and place them, and keep clear records; Handle with care during transportation, and do not collide or tilt.

8.Security protection support

The storage area is equipped with acid resistant protective clothing, acid and alkali resistant gloves, goggles, emergency flushing devices, and neutralizing adsorption materials nearby for easy emergency disposal.
